    Cultural Variation in the Development of Beliefs About Conservation.Justin T. A. Busch, Rachel E. Watson‐Jones & Cristine H. Legare - 2020 - Cognitive Science 44 (10):e12909.
Examining variation in reasoning about sustainability between diverse populations provides unique insight into how group norms surrounding resource conservation develop. Cultural institutions, such as religious organizations and formal schools, can mobilize communities to solve collective challenges associated with resource depletion. This study examined conservation beliefs in a Western industrialized (Austin, Texas, USA) and a non‐Western, subsistence agricultural community (Tanna, Vanuatu) among children, adolescents, and adults (N = 171; n = 58 7–12‐year‐olds, n = 53 13–17‐year‐olds, and n = 60 18–68‐year‐olds). Darren's Case: Narrative Ethics in Perri Klass's Other Women's Children.A. H. Jones - 1996 - Journal of Medicine and Philosophy 21 (3):267-286.
During the past fifteen years, the relationship between literature and medical ethics has evolved from the occasional use of stories as a substitute for the traditional case study in medical ethics to the emergence of a narrative approach to ethical analysis and decision making. Thus far, literary theory has been more important to narrative medical ethics than have works of literature themselves. Perri Klass's novel Other Women's Children deserves special scrutiny, however, because an analysis of it demonstrates ways that a (...)

    Learning from human tutoring.Michelene T. H. Chi, Stephanie A. Siler, Heisawn Jeong, Takashi Yamauchi & Robert G. Hausmann - 2001 - Cognitive Science 25 (4):471-533.
Human one‐to‐one tutoring has been shown to be a very effective form of instruction. Three contrasting hypotheses, a tutor‐centered one, a student‐centered one, and an interactive one could all potentially explain the effectiveness of tutoring. To test these hypotheses, analyses focused not only on the effectiveness of the tutors' moves, but also on the effectiveness of the students' construction on learning, as well as their interaction. The interaction hypothesis is further tested in the second study by manipulating the kind of (...)
